Administering an Estate

Few people are prepared for the death of a loved one, and added to the difficulties and pain of bereavement is the need to deal with their estate. Here at Beighton’s we understand the delicate situation you must be going through, and along with our services and assistance, we will provide you with empathy and support.

At Beighton’s we can deal with all aspects of the probate process. We are experienced and proficient in assessing an estate, preparing and completing complex and specialist forms, ironing out problems, distributing assets, giving help and legal advice to those involved and providing estate management through our reliable, efficient, and prompt probate service.

If your loved one passed away without leaving a will, we can provide you with assistance and a free 30 minute comfortable conversation and assessment of your situation. We do urge you to consult experienced individuals if no will has been left.

If you opt to manage the estate yourself, there are a few things to keep mind. As a personal representative you are responsible for making sure that the estate is administered correctly. A do-it-yourself approach has its pitfalls and you must bear in mind issues such as the time and effort involved, complexities both in the regulations and procedures, potential problems that may occur, taking full responsibility including personal liability for tax penalties or other liabilities. You will need to make an honest appraisal of your ability before taking on a do-it-yourself administration.

Administering an estate can involve locating the will, researching and assessing assets of the estate, prepping and completing Inheritance Tax accounts and forms, applying for an appropriate Grant of Representation, dealing with tax liabilities and many other issues.

Please consider this guide is only to be used for consultation. The advice and information provided in Beighton’s guide is intended to be of a general nature. We would always advise you take legal advice before embarking on any course of action.
